Artisan Bio: Carol Sheppard first began creating with glass in 2002 with her first course in stained glass techniques. Building on some of the skills she learned in that first set of glass-based art classes, she moved on to experimentation with fusing and kiln-forming with glass. She became captivated by mosaics which incorporated glass, both on a solid background and as glass-on-glass mosaics; her mirrors are one example of glass pieces on an opaque background. In 2005, Carol ventured into the realm of custom-crafted jewelry using her own kiln-formed glass cabechons and natural stones. Her wearable art includes wire-scrulpted pendants, earrings and bracelets, combining a variety of glass, natural- and man-made components to create eye-catching designs that are simple but elegant. View her website at www.southernorchidglass.com, where several stunning handmade quilts and a quilted jacket are also available for sale.
